What we do
Kurpie Fiddle Academy
The Kurpie String Academy is a school dedicated to teaching traditional music. It brings together violinists — children, young people, and adults — from six Kurpie municipalities. Weekly individual and group lessons are held in each of these locations.
The Academy’s instructor is Paweł Dąbkowski, a graduate of the Jan Sebastian Bach State Music School (1st level) in Grajewo. More importantly, he is a musician with over 30 years of experience in folk culture and more than 10 years of dedicated work with the music and singing traditions of the Green Forest (Puszcza Zielona).
Once a month, students from all participating municipalities meet in one place for collective music-making. They also visit museums and sites connected with the culture of the Green Forest, and take part in concerts and competitions.
The Kurpie String Academy is, among others, a laureate of the “Źródełko” Competition, organized by Polish Radio and the National Institute of Culture and Rural Heritage, held under the honorary patronage of the Minister of Education, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
The Academy’s violinists have also performed on the album by the band “Czułe Echo” and recorded Kurpie Christmas carols and pastorals as part of a project carried out by the Kurpiowski Nurt Tradycji Foundation.

Singing Gatherings “Zagajnica in Song”
We organized a series of gatherings featuring distinguished Kurpie singers and folk ensembles.
The meetings were accompanied by melodies performed by violinists from the Kurpie String Academy. An important aspect of the project was variability — one of the most distinctive features of traditional Kurpie songs — which involves the existence of songs with similar lyrics but entirely different melodic lines.
The gatherings were led by renowned singers and folklore ensembles: Stanisław Archacki and the “Kurpiowszczyzna” Folk Ensemble from Myszyniec, the ensemble “U nas na Kurpiach Białych”, as well as Witold Kuczyński and Elżbieta Kasznia.
“The project was co-financed by the National Institute of Culture and Rural Heritage under the Folk(od)nowa Program.”
